It’s here again, the Quarterly Economic Survey 2018 where businesses can take a short survey to help us understand the strengths and limitations they’re facing this quarter.

What is it?

The Quarterly Economic Survey (QES) is the largest and most representative independent business survey of its kind in the UK.

The survey looks at a wide range of issues, including; home sales and orders, export sales and orders, employment prospects, investment, recruitment difficulties, cash flow, confidence and price pressures. All participants have the opportunity to receive resulting reports.

Local results are fed into the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) to formulate the first national economic indicator of the quarter. Published in advance of official figures and other private surveys, it consistently mirrors trends in official data and, because of this, it is closely watched by key organisations including the Treasury, the Bank of England, the Office of Budget Responsibility, the EU Commission and the IMF.

The local results are a good source of data for businesses looking to understand the economic climate in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

How do I contribute?

The QES comprises of less than 30 tick box questions covering demand, employment, confidence investment and external factors and takes just a couple of minutes to complete.  Any business can complete the survey - you don't have to be a Chamber member.

Please note that the closing date is Monday 12 March 2018.

What happens to the results?

The results helps the Chamber assess how businesses in the two counties are performing on a range of key indicators and understand businesses’ biggest concerns. This allows us to gather a detailed understanding of different types of businesses and gives everyone a voice.
Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce will be publishing a report to their own website on the results from the two counties for the first quarter. We will also be monitoring the results from each quarter to help produce our Business Manifesto for 2019.

The results from the two counties will be collated to produce the national survey which is published each quarter online by the BCC.  Click here to see the latest national reports.

The last 25 years of results are also available online at The video below shows you how to make the most out of the results and website.
