COVID-19: Official Statement 17.03.2020
The spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus continues to dominate the news, with potential major implications for public health. As you would expect, in line with good corporate governance, we are monitoring developments very closely. We are following our business continuity plan to implement sensible measures to ensure that we are well prepared.
We wanted to reassure you that in respect of the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak, our major focus is the health and welfare of both our Members and people together with our ability to continue to effectively support our Members in all scenarios. We are therefore writing to share with you some of the actions that we have taken.
In immediate response to government directive, it is our duty to try to reduce the risk of the virus spreading by avoiding all unnecessary social contact. In response, we have decided to postpone all our events, training courses and face-to-face meetings as of Wednesday 18 March 2020.
We will be contacting all Members and Non-members booked to attend an event, course or meeting to inform them of these measures. We would like our Members to know that the Chamber is still operational and all other support services will continue which you may find helpful at this time. We will be following public health guidance closely and will inform all Members of our position if or when it changes.
The Chamber is the representative voice of business for the two counties and as such, we are here to support you through these challenging and unprecedented times in any way we can. We would urge you to tell us what your concerns are for the coming weeks and months so that we can advise you where possible.
We will be contacting you regularly with all of the latest updates, changes and guidance from government to support businesses through these times as soon as we know them.
Changes to Events and Training courses
As of tomorrow Wednesday 18 March 2020, all Chamber events and training courses will be postponed. We will review this on a rolling basis as the situation evolves. This difficult decision has been made to reduce the risk to our Members, delegates, and the wider public. The events and training team will contact Members with bookings to assist you with future alternatives. All charity and corporate hospitality initiatives will also be postponed until further notice.
Changes to Face-to-Face Meetings
Face-to-face meetings will be postponed, but where possible will be held via virtual meeting software to ensure that we can still talk to and support our Members as we would normally.
We have invested in our technological infrastructure to ensure that our business can adapt and operate under the current circumstances. From Wednesday 18 March 2020, these are the measures we are taking:
Our people have the ability to work from home and can remotely access our systems in an efficient and secure IT environment, as if they were working from one of our offices.
Likewise, we have the facilities to re-direct our telephone lines to mobile telephones keeping all normal communication lines open.
We have agile communication and knowledge sharing systems that allow us to react quickly so we can update you of changes as soon as they happen.
We would like our Members to know that the Chamber is still fully operational and all other support services will continue. We will be following public health guidance closely and will inform all Members of our position if and when it changes.
