On 1st January 2021, the UK will have exited the Single European market and although the signs are that a trade deal of some sort will probably be agreed, the UK will be outside of the Single Market and a 3rd country to the EU27 members, as such, customs entry declarations and export and import paperwork will be required whether there is a deal or not.
To support companies in their international trade processes more generally and also as preparation for leaving the Single Market more specifically, the Chamber are running a series of virtual training courses delivered by Strong and Herd.
At an average length of 2 hours, some of the new virtual training courses will include:
Basic Export Documentation (17/07/20):
A brief but comprehensive review of the inter-connecting elements of exporting goods from the UK. Some practical awareness of exporting is beneficial, but this session is suitable for beginners. The aim is to give delegates confidence in dealing with overseas customers, with transportation companies or Freight Forwarders and with customs procedures.
Basic Import Documentation (23/07/20):
This session will give a comprehensive overview of the inter-connecting elements of importing goods into the UK. The aim is to look at the supply chain aspects of the process and examine the differences between bringing goods into the UK – a great introduction for anyone new to the regulations surrounding importing, especially if your main supply markets have been in the European Union. The aim is to give delegates confidence in dealing with overseas suppliers, transportation and with customs procedures.
Export Development (09/07/20):
This course is designed for novices and experienced exporting companies who are seeking to establish their products/services in new markets. From 1st January, 2021 companies selling to the EU will become, overnight, “exporters”. Participants will learn how to: identify critical success factors. Research markets and collect reliable information. Compare and prioritise market opportunities. Identify major obstacles and pitfalls.
International Market Research (13/07/20):
Whether you are new to trading internationally or more experienced get key tips from an export professional on marketing, sales promotions and developing new and exciting market opportunities. It will introduce or refresh your knowledge on key strategies in the collection of key market intelligence, including local regulations, compliance issues, packaging, and possible non-tariff barriers.
Brexit – A Six-Month Checklist (29/06/20):
This topical session reviews where the UK and EU are today as we plan for the exit from the Transitional Arrangement at the end of 2020. The UK will become a 3rd country to the EU27 members on the 1st January 2021 and customs entry declarations and export and import paperwork will be required whether there is a deal or not. UK government has announced a staged approach to the introduction of full regulations for goods coming from the EU into the UK but the EU will not be doing the same. The session includes:
- What will change on 1st January 2021 and how can we prepare for more customs regulations
- What different could a Free Trade Agreement make?
- Review of your delivery terms, are ExWorks and DDP problematic
- Are you ready for customs entries at export?
- Import into the UK – how does the staged approach work
- GB-Northern Ireland trade – what in practical terms will we have to do
Who should attend?
- Newcomers to export or people only involved occasionally with exports
- Shipping department, warehouse staff who have only traded with the EU
- Export administrators and managers who have had no formal training in international trade and customs procedures
- Buyers, purchasing and procurement staff who need to understand key issues to bring goods into the UK from the EU27
- Sales and Customer service administrators who need to understand what they are contracting
- Freight forwarders and clearing agents who may be asked by their clients to make this important legal decision when entering goods to customs.
Customs Compliance Tips (03/08/20):
This interactive session covers key points relating to customs declarations with emphasis on controlling movements to and from the EU27 once the UK leaves the Transitional Period. The session is an entry level overview ideal for anyone that hasn’t been involved with customs regulations relating to exporting and importing outside the EU but also works as a refresher of current knowledge. More detailed information is available in the follow on 2 hour sessions covering Export Declarations, Import Declarations and EU Exit Updates (see below). The session includes:

Export Customs Declarations (08/07/20):
In 2 hours learn the key points of what export customs entries are, the key pieces of information needed and how customs export entries are made in the UK. Though this session will not cover each box by box entry field delegates will feel more comfortable reading the export entries and understanding what information is needed by freight companies. An important session in light of the UK leaving the Transitional arrangement with the EU at the end of 2020.The session includes:
- Why export customs entries are needed
- What information must you have to ensure an entries is submitted accurately
- The documentation needed to support the entry and evidence of export
- Compliance, fines and penalties
Import Customs Declarations (12/08/20):
In 2 hours learn the key points of what import customs entries are, the key pieces of information needed and how customs import entries are made in the UK and the staged approach the UK Government are bringing in for 1st January 2021 on EU arrivals into the UK. Though this session will not cover each box by box entry field delegates will feel more comfortable reading the export entries and understanding what information is needed by freight companies.The session includes:
- Why export customs entries are needed
- What information must you have to ensure an entries is submitted accurately
- The documentation needed to support the entry and evidence of export
- Compliance, fines and penalties
