It was recently reported that UK manufacturing suffered its sharpest contraction in six years; a sobering thought, particularly given the current political uncertainty.
Made in Britain is still a mark of quality. However, it’s one that is increasingly resonating internationally yet appears to be losing credence with a UK audience. International demand for Egbert Taylor’s bins has never been so high with export sales in 2019 being one of the best years we have ever had.
Nevertheless we’re noticing a growing resistance from UK companies to purchase British made bins as they lean towards cost over quality – a shift that can only be addressed by cheaper imports from countries such as China.
We take great pride in our heritage, and a huge part of that comes from our attitude to buying local and supporting local firms. Over the past two years we have moved all our outsourced services to companies within the Two Counties, and have over 90% of our raw materials sourced from a 50 mile radius.
By buying British, you’re not only buying quality and buying responsibly, but you’re also keeping UK manufacturing alive, and that’s surely a strategy for success.
