Thursfields Talk Legal: helping charities and community groups plan successful futures

Planning successful futures for charities and other community groups will be the focus of a free Thursfields Solicitors’ webinar later this month.

The Zoom-based event from 10.00am on Wednesday 24 March will be hosted by several of Thursfields’ top legal experts who will discuss the four key areas of governance, employment, property and fundraising.

Jenny Smith, head of the Charities and Communities department at the leading Midlands law firm, will provide top tips on governance. This will include how to formalise a community initiative so that it can raise funds and operate securely, and what to do if an existing organisation has changed or wishes to change how it operates or what it does.

James Monk, an associate director in the Employment & HR Law department, will cover important updates for the third sector in relation to their workers post-lockdown.

Stewart Coles, an associate director in the Commercial Property department, will focus on key points to consider when acquiring or disposing of property and entering into flexible property arrangements.

And Katherine Ellis, a senior associate solicitor in the Charities and Communities department, will discuss gifts in wills, providing some top tips on how charities can maximise legacy income and secure those funds more quickly.

The Thursfields Talk Legal event has been titled ‘Moving Ahead for Charities and Other Community Groups’. It is expected to last no longer than one hour, including questions and answers, and those attending will gain valuable knowledge on issues to help their future planning.

Ms Smith said:

“This event is aimed at trustees, committee members and senior staff of existing and proposed new organisations as they establish the way ahead. We very much enjoy working with a very wide range of clients from charities and communities and are delighted that our work in the third sector is recognised by the Legal 500. We now want to share our knowledge with a wider audience to help organisations grow and thrive as we start to emerge from lockdown.”
