Supporting the next generation at KGD

KGD has specialised in the design and manufacture of packaged process plant equipment and pressure vessels for the oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, nuclear, renewables, pharmaceutical and food industries for the last forty years.

Working within these sectors requires a specialist skill set across all aspects of the Business, from accounts, design, electrical installations, NDT, to fabricating and welding.

Their founder Ken George Davies (KGD) had a firm belief that acquiring these skills could only be achieved by championing the Apprentice programme, utilising the skills that the mentors within the business have.

To this end and further championing his belief, he became a board member on the HGTA (Herefordshire Group Training Association) to promote apprenticeships in the industry locally and nationally.

KGD currently have over one hundred employees, twenty of which are current Apprentices spread across the structured fours training programme, and twenty six are ex apprentices who have stayed within the business, some for over thirty years.

Of these twenty-six, many have taken up very senior roles within the business, ranging from our current Managing Director, to Manufacturing Manager, Site-work manager, NDT manager, Foreman, leading hands, specialist welders, contract engineers, electricians and tradespeople.

Many of these employees were actively encouraged, allowed and supported through the business to progress into the roles they currently hold, further testament to the belief and trust that Ken Davies had in apprentices and apprenticeship programmes.

This belief and trust in apprentices and apprenticeships is still carried on by our current Managing Director, who was himself allowed to learn under the guidance of mentors in a safe and inclusive environment realising his potential.
