ChamSerco Restart Scheme: providing a free service in your area to fill job vacancies

The Restart Scheme is part of the Government’s wider ‘Plan for Jobs’ programmes to help long-term unemployed people develop their skills so they can find sustainable and meaningful employment. Serco are the provider for the Restart Scheme in West Central England, which covers Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Serco’s Employer Engagement Team are in the area and available to help you find the right candidates to fill your vacancies by matching our vast pool of candidates with the roles that businesses need to fill. They organise and deliver careers and company insight sessions to candidates on your behalf, Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, and also job-related training. They can also provide post-employment support and funded training opportunities for existing staff.

Because the Restart Scheme is funded by the Department for Work and Pensions to support these job candidates, there is no cost to business. The scheme delivers a wide range of industry-specific skills training, job interview techniques and CV writing support as well as wrap-around support such as building self-confidence and supporting mental well-being. This enables the Restart Scheme to present quality job candidates to businesses for their selection process.

In the last 14 months, Serco’s Restart Scheme in West Central England has helped businesses recruit 3,200 people into work. Because the scheme gives these individuals 12 months support from when they join, and factors in post-employment support so they transition smoothly into jobs, there is reduced turnover of staff from the Restart Scheme for businesses.

A representative from retailer One Beyond said:

“The STARS team sorted out my recruitment needs for many new store openings and filling positions in existing stores in the Midlands. They always managed to provide the numbers we need for a new store opening and a venue for conducting the interviews. Good standard of applicants compared to some other recruitment agencies we have worked with in the past”.
