Over the last 4 weeks, Worcestershire has been swept up in a sea of support for Oscar Saxelby- Lee a little boy who has leukaemia.
It has been truly heart-warming to see the Worcestershire supporting Oscar’s family in the most incredible ways. From children donating all their pocket money, firemen cycling from Lands’ End to John O’ Groats, to people shaving off their hair, and to businesses donating their entire day’s takings, the support of the community has been simply incredible, enabling the family to reach and exceed their £500.000 target needed for Oscars treatment.
As many members will be aware, the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust is proud to have been at the heart of Oscar’s campaign, helping to provide support to Oscar’s parents.
Oscar sadly is not the only child in this situation. Locally, we are aware of other children in similar situations and nationally many other children who are also facing very limited treatment options and are having to fundraise in a similar way.
Childhood cancer is not as rare as we may think. We do not have all the answers, but one of the most important things we can do is to keep funding research into better and kinder treatments for children with cancer and to continue to provide support for families. The Trust would like to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful individuals and businesses that have supported Oscar’s campaign in any way but also to draw attention to the fact that the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust is very much in need of continued support going forwards to enable us to continue our vital work.
