We are absolutely delighted to be able to share the most incredible news. Today, Oscar Saxelby and his parents are flying home from Singapore. Oscar remains free of detectable cancer after having received pioneering life-saving treatment in Singapore.
Oscar’s flight back to the UK has taken place almost 10 months after he and his parents Olivia and Jaime embarked on their journey to Singapore to try and save Oscar’s life.
At the end of last year, Worcestershire and the West Midlands came together with the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust and Pitmaston Primary School to fundraise over half a million pounds to fund potentially lifesaving treatment for Oscar as part of the Hand in Hand for Oscar campaign. At this point, Oscar had already exhausted treatment options in the UK and the treatments available were not going to be curative. It was then that his parents, Olivia Saxelby and Jaime Lee started looking for other options.
Oscar is only the second child in the world to receive this ground-breaking personalised treatment for T cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). Up until now, it has only been available for children with B-cell ALL. Oscar’s heart-warming campaign showed people at their best, all working together. This news is amazing, not just for Oscar, but potentially for other children in a similar position in the future. Oscar still has a way to go and will need to be shielded for a good while longer once he gets home, but he remains cancer free and smiling.

The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust was set up in memory of 4-year-old Grace. Grace’s wish was to help other children, and this is exactly what she has helped to do. We would like to say thank you to everyone that helped throughout the Hand in Hand for Oscar campaign. Between us, this has enabled Oscar to return home free from cancer. We wish Oscar, Olivia and Jaime a very safe journey home.
