Nifty generates national coverage for national stress awareness day

Nifty Communications generated national coverage by holding an event in collaboration with Mind and Marina Gibson to mark National Stress Awareness Day at London’s Syon Park back in October.

The event was hosted by record-breaking angler and social media influencer Marina Gibson, who showcased the power of fishing and being outdoors to combat stress as she taught aspiring fisher people.

To mark International Stress Awareness Week ahead of Mind’s National Stress Awareness Day, Marina was joined by mental health, sports and recreation bloggers for the event. The day began with Marina demonstrating the basics of casting before attendees were able to spend time fly-fishing. Marina offered real-life examples of how the great outdoors has helped her combat stress, as she listed the benefits of fishing for mindfulness and mental wellbeing.

The Times covered the event on a full-page article on page three of the respected publication and Marina was interviewed for ITV News at 10 and Sky News. There were also features in Country Living magazine and the Daily Mail, all orchestrated and managed by Nifty Communications.

Marina Gibson, founder of the Northern Fishing School, said: ‘Fly-fishing has long been heralded as a great source of therapy and it demonstrates how fly-fishing or anything meditative allows you to step away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It clears your mind by focusing on the beautiful surroundings as well as the art and technique of exercise and keeping your mind busy with an art form. It was a real privilege to host these fabulous people at Syon Park, which will always hold a special place in my heart. When I was living in London and found the stresses of everyday life all too much, I found this safe haven within the city at Syon Park that allowed me to escape stress-filled environments and recuperate within this tranquil setting.’

There was a strong female presence at the event with Marina having long advocated for more women to get into the sport after being inspired to take up fishing by her mother. The event follows Marina’s previous event, which inspired females to get fishing on International Women’s Day as part of Orvis UK’s 50/50 On the Water initiative. Marina also launched the Northern Fishing School in May with the aim of attracting more young people into the sport.
