Clare Whittaker, Partner and family law solicitor at Gordon Lutton Solicitors, explains why she welcomes relationship counselling gift vouchers.

A local branch of relationship counselling charity Relate, has announced this week that it is considering offering gift vouchers for marriage guidance sessions.
The Cambridge branch of the charity currently offers gift vouchers, for weddings, and ‘MOT’ vouchers for anniversary gifts.

Clare Whittaker, divorce expert at Gordon Lutton welcomed the move. She said, ‘I welcome anything that supports families. If you think about it in advance, marriage is a long term contract and there will undoubtedly be problems during that time, but if couples talk about how they might manage some of those issues, they are taking a rather more practical approach to their marriage.’

‘In my experience, couples that sit down and talk about their future are the ones with very strong relationships. These counselling vouchers should work to help couples to stay together by encouraging open and honest communication.’
