Guidance on employment status for HR advisers has been published by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS). Its aim is to help individuals and businesses understand which employment rights apply to them.
This new guidance has been produced in order to help individuals and businesses to understand their rights in an easy to access way. Understanding the rights they are entitled to at work enables employees to have open discussions with their employers. This will promote positive communication and open up opportunities for both individuals and the businesses in which they work to ensure they are providing the necessary working conditions required.
Employment status impacts everyone who works. It defines the rights and protections that individuals are entitled to at work. This therefore dictates the responsibility that an employer owes to the worker. This new guidance provides advice for micro businesses, start-ups and SMEs to support those who have less capacity to understand the law.
