National Asparagus Day 2021 #ShopLocal

Friday 23 April is National Asparagus day!

Worcestershire and the Vale of Evesham in particular are famous worldwide for Asparagus, and are celebrated each year at the Asparagus Festival in Evesham. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the British Asparagus Festival events once again look as if they will be severely compromised. However, virtual events and activities are being held in order to celebrate Vale of Evesham asparagus throughout the season.

As National Asparagus Day and the start of the English growing season  (23rd April) gets closer, the famous “Gras” will continue to grow in abundance and all local farm shops and supermarkets will be selling this most desirable vegetable.

We’re encouraging the community to support local growers by making asparagus part of your essential shopping list, whether from the supermarket or adding it to your list when ordering deliveries from some of the many producers that are doing such a fantastic job in supplying us with local fruit and veg.

The Chamber is passionate about supporting our region’s producers, and will continue to lobby government and support the British Chambers of Commerce in encouraging supermarkets to stock local seasonal produce when available to support our local economy.

The Chamber are proud supporters of the Make It Worcestershire campaign, celebrating the best growers, producers, retailers, and hospitality venues in the county. You can get involved and find out more here.

In addition, we run our Food and Drink Forum quarterly – a strategic group to promote the interests of food and drink producers from within our two counties. It champions and lobbies for specific strategies and policies that benefit the members – from incubation to maturity, with a specific focus on skills, innovation and growth.
