Myriad’s CEO tackles the Three Peaks Challenge

A chief executive of a Worcester-based charity will be putting his best foot forward to take on the Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for the charity.

Fifty-six-year-old Richard Whateley will be joined by six friends, all striding out in support of Barbourne-based The Myriad Centre, which provides specialist care and day respite for young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).

Heading off on Saturday 30 April, the team will trailblaze up Ben Nevis in Scotland, which at 1,345 metres, is the highest mountain in Scotland and the British Isles. They will then hike up Scafell Pike in the Lake District, the highest mountain in England at 978 metres on Sunday 1st May. Their challenge will finish on Monday 2nd May with a trek up Wales’s highest mountain, Snowdon, which stands at 1,085m

Richard’s co-challengers, who all hail from Market Bosworth in Leicestershire, include team leader James Handford, Bruce McDonnell, David Edwards. Pete Hames and Sam Mottram. All the team has decided that donations will go towards The Myriad Centre Capital Appeal to raise funds to redevelop the charity’s current premises in St George’s Walk.

Richard says: “Our vision is that every young person with profound and multiple disabilities across our region has the opportunity to lead a fun and fulfilled life. We support this by providing a wide range of specialist therapies and activities at our centre.

“I’m delighted that my teammates have unanimously agreed to help raise funds for our new Capital Appeal to redevelop and improve our building. This will provide the Myriad Centre with the opportunity to create a legacy in the quality of care provided to young people with profound disability in Worcestershire and, in doing so the dissemination of best practice in the support of young people with PMLD.”
