Local Business Expands Team with Kickstarter Initiative

A Worcestershire business has created three new jobs for young people thanks to the Government’s Kickstart scheme.
Smile Box is a subscription box and corporate wellbeing gift service which encourages people to focus more on self-care, wellbeing and positive mental health.

Founder Donna Fisher, an Entrepreneur and NLP Coach from Bromsgrove, said:

“To expand the Smile Box team so soon after launching the business is really exciting! We introduced the corporate side of the business first, and recently launched a monthly subscription service for consumers. Our boxes have been flying off the shelves, so growing the team has helped us keep up with the demand. We offer a bespoke service to our corporate clients which means we need more hands-on deck. With three new employees joining the existing team, we can continue to offer this premium service and have the resource we need to tap into new markets and launch more products and services.”

The Kickstart Scheme provides funding to create new jobs for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit and was brought in to relieve the pressure on the job market caused by the Global Pandemic. Currently there are over 3.2 million UK employees supported by the Universal Credit scheme. The Kickstart job placements provide training and development, and encourage positive behaviours from employees, helping them secure future employment. The support provided by the six-month placements enables a successful transition into long term employment, giving individuals the confidence and skills to succeed in future job roles.

Donna adds:

“I’m passionate about supporting people through coaching and development, so when I heard about the Kickstart Scheme, I couldn’t wait to get involved. I’ve offered 3 placements so far and have been lucky to find some fabulous local talent. I am hoping to recruit a fourth kickstarter team member soon. Courtney, Laura and Molly-Ann all started in the last month and have already had such a positive impact on the Smile Box business, providing essential business support and some fresh ideas for new products and better ways of working. The next few months look to be very exciting!”
