Pupils at Holy Trinity School and Sixth Form Centre in Kidderminster celebrated Saturday’s Earth Hour on Friday 29th March by effectively ‘shutting down’ the school for an hour.
Earth Hour which is on Saturday March 30th will see countries all over the world shut-off electricity to promote the impact humans have on the environment and what we can do to change this. Starting as a symbolic, lights out event in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour is now the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, inspiring millions of people to take action for our planet and nature.
Headteacher Mrs Pamela Leek-Wright commented: “We effectively ‘shut down’ Holy Trinity for an hour during the school day on Friday 29th March in support of Earth Hour, with students coming off timetable and participating in a range of activities which supports care for our environment and climate.”
Students took part in litter picking groups, gardening groups, Earth Hour focused swimming lessons and offered pledges for action within school, their home or within their community.
Coordinated by WWF and other volunteer organisations, Earth Hour aims to spark never-before-had conversations on the loss of nature and the urgent action we need to take to protect it.
