The senior management team at Hazelton Mountford are embracing new methods to recruit exceptional team members, including an ‘Apprenticeship Day’ held at the Worcester city centre HQ.
In addition to placing their Chartered Insurance Apprenticeship role on the government website (please click here to view more) the team were keen to take things further and invite suitable applicants into the office for a taster day – rather than an interview.
Out of the 5 applicants invited, 4 turned up on the day and 2 were offered a position and begin in September 2022.
The Apprenticeship Day consisted of video presentations along with person to person chats with the team, time to chat and take part in interactive sessions, lunch and real insight into what working at the firm entails. All 4 invitees were then given the opportunity to feed back their views and show their interest in the role.
Group Managing Director, Gordon Hazelton, says:
“This gave school leavers the opportunity to learn about insurance and broking as well as experience a day in the life of an insurance broker.
“They had opportunities to sit with team members in different roles, ask questions and experience the culture of an office working environment, with a view to becoming an apprentice at Hazelton Mountford.”
The trial day also included short discussion sessions, which were set to gauge the level of interest and suitability of new recruits.
This is part of a wider strategy to recruit and mitigate against the challenges seen across the insurance recruitment space. To read the related article entitled ‘Why is it so hard to find the right candidates?’ in Insurance Business UK, please click here.
