Creating Mentally Healthy Workplaces

Kelly White, Managing Director of Number Fifteen Recruitment, has spent the last three months studying for a Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace, and is now sharing best practice with local employers through a bespoke training course, which is available with 50% grant funding.

According to the latest research a third of managers feel out of their depth supporting their team with poor mental health and one in five UK workers report feeling unable to manage stress and pressure in the workplace.

She said: “Poor mental health accounts for more than half of all work-related illnesses with around 51% of long-term sick leave due to stress, depression, or anxiety. I have experienced first-hand the devastating affect poor mental health has on both individuals and their families. 70% of managers report organisational barriers to supporting staff wellbeing, including company policy, heavy workload, unsupportive workplace culture, and not being equipped with the right skills.”

She said: “A staggering 87% of jobseekers consider employer wellness packages on offer. At a time of political and economic uncertainty, employers that show they care about the mental wellbeing of their teams stand to pay off when it comes to attracting and holding on to the best talent.”
