Could you be a Children’s or Young Adult’s Author? Writer’s Day Invites New Writers in Worcester

Could your idea become the next Charlie and Lola, The Hunger Games, or Where the Wild Things Are?

Aspiring writers, experienced authors, and anyone curious about writing for younger audiences are invited to Writer’s Day 2026 at The Hive in Worcester, where this year’s theme shines a spotlight on Writing for Children and Young Adults.

Taking place on 20 June from 9.30 to 3.30pm, the event brings together leading voices from across the world of children’s literature, covering everything from crafting stories to creating the imagery on the page.

Experts from the University of Worcester will join respected figures from the world of publishing for a day of talks, panel discussion and networking.

There’ll also be the chance for local people who have already published books aimed at young people to showcase what they’ve written in a special Marketplace event during the day.

Jean Webb, Professor of International Children’s Literature at the University of Worcester will be giving a talk exploring the enduring legacy of Winnie-the-Pooh during her lecture.

Also appearing will be University of Worcester graduate and children’s book illustrator Jess Mason.

Vega Minton, Events Coordinator at The Hive, said: “Writer’s Day is for anyone with an interest in stories, whether they’re working on their first novel, designing an eye-catching graphic novel, or just figuring out how to get started on their own unique idea for a picture book.”

“Everyone is welcome to attend,” she added. “The sessions will be very relaxed and supportive so no-one will feel out of their depth.”

Writers’ Day at The Hive has become a key fixture in the library’s calendar, giving the community’s budding authors the chance to explore their writing.

Vega said: “It’s incredibly rare to hear from such a range of industry experts at your local library. The advice and insightful knowledge they’ll share will be invaluable to everyone, whatever stage they’re at in their writing journey.”

Tickets for Writers’ Day 2026 cost £7 and can be booked on the County Council website.
