Headway Worcestershire is asking for your support with the first ever ‘National Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Games’. Can you spare some time to help the local team host the ABI Games in Worcester on Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th August 2022?
Thanks to a £50,000 National Lottery cash boost, the world first games will take place at the University of Worcester Arena, which will host adults from around the UK with an acquired brain injury.
Contestants will take part in a series of events building on their life skills, creative abilities and cognitive awareness as well as testing their physical attributes.
Emma Hamel, project lead for the Headway Worcestershire initiative, says: “We’re asking for everyone to join together to support our event and help us in whatever way they can. Maybe local folks can provide their time at the event? There are variety of roles from marshalling, to helping setup, and hours that you can maybe commit to, to enable us all to make this an incredible event. Together let’s see if we can make this the greatest games possible. Please visit our web page to find out more and get signed up!”
A range of activities can be undertaken virtually, like those encouraging creative expression including pottery, art, creative writing and photography as well as life skills comprising ‘tallest sunflower’ and wonky fruit and veg, for example.
Whilst other events include physical games such as boccia, walking tennis, cricket, rugby and football. Cognitive ventures like dominoes, quizzes and chess are also available.
There’s something for everyone and the ABI Games team encourage participants from across the UK.
