Business set up on kitchen tables in lockdown scoops top Chamber award

The Managing Director of a business which was voted ‘Most Promising New Business’ at the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce Business Awards has described their win as ‘incredible.’

Apogees Associates started on day one of the second national lockdown on kitchen tables and in spare rooms. Nathaniel and Josh Mortazavi, Jack Morgan and Ben Hewitt recognised the opportunity to help businesses recover their day to day costs through HMRC’s R&D tax credit incentive. To be eligible, a company must have developed or improved products, processes or systems. Detailing this information to HMRC in a manner that addresses all of the criteria, whilst being easy and quick for their clients, and ensuring they are recovering everything that is available to them, is Apogee’s specialism.

To date, the team have achieved a 100% success rate across over 600 applications without receiving so much as a query from HMRC. In some cases they have uplifted applications compiled by some of the country’s oldest and largest specialist R&D providers by over 850%.

Apogee was one of six companies to be shortlisted in their category which was sponsored by mfg Solicitors. The winners were announced at a black tie awards ceremony at Worcester Arena.
Tanya Cunningham, Director of Finance & Corporate Services at Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Awards judging panel said:
‘Apogee’s passion really stood out, demonstrating excellent vision from onset to future aspirations. Their commitment to sustainability, differentiation from competition and support to start-up companies is commendable. Other winning factors were their excellent customer service values and great client retention’

Nathaniel Mortazavi, Managing Director at Apogee Associates said:
‘It was an incredible experience to be nominated for the Most Promising New Business Award and to be in a room full of such inspiring companies. To then leave having won felt absolutely unreal.
We are truly honoured, and sincerely grateful to everybody who has supported us along our journey. It hasn’t been easy, and we couldn’t have got this far without the support we’ve received.

The Most Promising New Business Award is an award that recognises potential in a business; it is up to us to ensure that potential is realised.’
