BBC Recognition for Lee’s Place Volunteers

Community Power are proud to announce that their homeless project Lee’s Place has been named a finalist in the Community Group category of the BBC Hereford & Worcester Make a Difference Awards.

The exciting news was delivered in person by Tammy Gooding and the BBC Hereford & Worcester radio Breakfast Show team, who surprised our volunteers during one of our regular sessions.

This recognition celebrates the remarkable contribution of our team of around 70 volunteers, who support people experiencing homelessness in Hereford seven evenings a week. Together they prepare and serve home-cooked meals, provide clothing and essential items, and, above all, create a welcoming environment where every guest is treated with dignity, kindness and respect.

The nomination described our volunteers as “an extraordinary group of people… quietly and compassionately transforming lives… changing lives, one evening at a time.” Those words perfectly reflect the dedication and compassion shown by our volunteers every day.

While we are incredibly honoured to be shortlisted, this achievement also belongs to the many businesses, organisations, community groups and individuals whose generosity enables Lee’s Place to continue its work. Through donations, fundraising, volunteering and partnerships, they play a vital role in helping us provide hope and practical support to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

We look forward to celebrating alongside fellow finalists at the awards ceremony this September at The Courtyard, Hereford.

Whatever the outcome, we are immensely proud that the compassion and commitment of our volunteers has received the recognition it so richly deserves.
