Local history enthusiasts are being invited to get hands-on by becoming a volunteer at Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings.

Avoncroft is currently seeking volunteers who may have some spare time at the weekend to get involved with demonstrating their iconic Windmill and also the telephones in their National Telephone Kiosk Collection.
The Museum, which already has a strong team of volunteers, has a wide range of additional opportunities across its site, from demonstrations in the historic buildings to helping out at special events.
Some of the voluntary roles available include the chance to be a costumed guide in the Victorian Toll House, 1940’s Prefab and Mid-15th-century Town House.  There are also vital roles behind the scenes, such as maintaining the gardens and grounds.
Julia Morris, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Avoncroft Museum said:  “Our volunteers are a vital part of the Avoncroft team. Many of our visitors tell us that it is the enthusiasm of the volunteers which brings the collection to life and makes the experience so enjoyable.”
The benefits of being a volunteer make it a worthwhile commitment too, Julia adds.  “Our volunteers get involved because they are passionate about Avoncroft, and they are keen to share that with others.  Many of them are also motivated by the chance to meet like-minded people, to share their skills or develop new ones, get hands-on with the historic buildings and equipment, all while supporting our community heritage.”
Anyone with an interest in history, plenty of enthusiasm and a few hours to spare especially at the weekend is encouraged to get in touch to discuss how they can get involved, by contacting Julia Morris on 01527 831363 or via email on
