Working with local Higher Education provider, Evesham College in Worcestershire, work experience students Matthew Arthurs and Phillip Reason have recently completed a three-month placement to design a real-life product, from concept through to final presentation. Allowing students to become completely absorbed in the design of a child transport trailer suitable for events, theme parks and festivals, JMDA Design aims to inspire the next generation in product designers and engineers, and support education at a more in-depth level.
JMDA Design who have a long history in providing invaluable work experience to local schools and colleges, have chosen to work with students in a more proactive way. With a genuine real-life project to design a festival trailer suitable for parents to transport children and equipment around any theme park or festival. Matthew and Phillip worked onsite at JMDA one day per week, under the project management of design team members Elena Slobodyuk and John Walters. Following the product design process from initial design concepts, the students expanded their knowledge of CAD and explored potential materials that could be used in the end manufacture of the finished product. The students were presented with a certificate and prize for their achievement.
Derrick Barker, Creative Director and Managing Director at JMDA Design explains, “This type of work experience is designed to stimulate and create a catalogue of knowledge for young and inspiring product designers and design engineers. By supporting Evesham College we hope to enrich their student’s classroom studies, bringing projects to life.” He adds “Phillip and Matthew are an absolute delight to work with and we’ve all been extremely impressed by their ideas. I will look forward to presenting them with their certificates of achievement later in the term”.
