Worcestershire County Cricket Club: January Step Challenge as part of Worcestershire Works Well Accreditation

Worcestershire County Cricket Club started working towards their Worcestershire Works Well Accreditation in January 2023 to put the health and wellbeing of their staff at the forefront of their business activities.

The Club have introduced a Health and Wellbeing Group that regularly discusses plans to improve the staff’s health and wellbeing and work towards the fantastic initiative.

The team encouraged a January New Year Step Challenge with three prizes for grabs. The categories were; Overall Step Winner, Winning Team and Best Effort. The staff and players were divided up into random groups of six (otherwise, the Grounds Team would have it in the bag!), with an app leaderboard for some healthy competition.

The results of this challenge were fantastic. Almost 75% of the staff and players actively got involved in this challenge, with many incorporating a walk on their lunch break and walking meetings. The winner of this challenge completed 691,277 steps during the month, and the winning team completed 1,813,944 steps combined. The winner of the Best Effort increased their number of steps by 802% compared to the previous month.

The Club look forward to continuing with new projects to help improve the health and wellbeing across the whole business.

Sarah Gluyas, Company Secretary at Worcestershire County Cricket Club, commented, “We are pleased with how many people got engaged in our step challenge. It was fantastic to see people making a conscious effort to improve their daily steps.

“We look forward to implementing further wellbeing initiatives and working towards achieving our Worcestershire Works Well Accreditation”.
