Worcester-based Prime Mix Marketing Ltd is raising awareness and funds for Mesothelioma UK, which supports individuals affected by asbestos-related lung cancer, by hosting a charity fancy dress morning on Thursday, 5th February, in memory of local man Michael Darling.
The event, held at The Kiln on Copenhagen Street, brought together colleagues and members of the local community for an ‘M’ themed fancy dress morning in support of the national charity for people affected by mesothelioma. Attendees arrived dressed as everything from Minions and monsters to margaritas and Mr Bean, with a prize awarded for the most creative outfit.
The fundraiser was held in memory of Michael, the late father of Prime Mix Marketing Director Christina Darling, who passed away in 2021 after developing mesothelioma as a result of asbestos exposure at work.
“This event meant a great deal to all of us,” said Christina at Prime Mix Marketing Ltd. “Mesothelioma is a devastating disease that often affects families decades after asbestos exposure. We were proud to support Mesothelioma UK while honouring Michael’s memory and helping to raise awareness within our local community.”
All proceeds from the event are being donated to Mesothelioma UK, which provides specialist nurse support in NHS hospitals, a Freephone advice service, benefits guidance, and helps patients access expert treatment and clinical trials.
Although asbestos was banned in the UK in 1999, it remains present in many older buildings including homes, schools, hospitals and workplaces. When disturbed, asbestos fibres can be inhaled and may lead to mesothelioma 15 to 60 years after exposure, with no known safe level.
Prime Mix Marketing, a multi award winning strategic marketing agency, said the fundraiser was not only about raising money, but also about educating people locally on the ongoing risks of asbestos and where support is available for those affected.
