Anyone who has ever thought teaching wasn’t possible because of family or work commitments can discover flexible, local ways to train at an event in Worcester next week.
People considering a career change are invited to come along to The Hive on Monday, March 23, from 2pm to 6pm to learn more about routes into the profession where they live, through the University of Worcester’s network of Regional Training Hubs.
The Hubs are groups of schools working together to train teachers. The University has hubs across the region, from Herefordshire and Worcestershire to Warwickshire, Birmingham and the Black Country.
“Many people benefit from the full campus experience of a PGCE course at the University,” said Andy Taylor, Senior Lecturer and Primary Regional Training Hub Co‑ordinator. “But for some, the flexibility that comes with doing more training where they live gives them the opportunity to balance study and training with family or caring commitments, or existing work obligations.”
He continued: “At the event at The Hive you’ll be able to ask about the route into your dream career that will best suit you, and for many people, Regional Training Hubs are the catalyst for change that they’re looking for.”
Beatrice Pallister is completing her PGCE with the University of Worcester through the Regional Training Hub at Stour Vale Academy Trust in the West Midlands.
“Training at a Regional Hub fits in perfectly with my life,” she said. “Stour Vale is just a 30-minute drive from Birmingham, and my school placements are less than 10 minutes from home. I’ve benefited from excellent school mentors and exposure to a variety of schools through placements and training weeks, gaining a broad range of experiences in different year groups and school settings.”
Beatrice continued: “I’ve loved how well-structured and supportive the course is. Days at the Hub are packed with engaging, informative lectures in a small classroom setting, making it much more interactive than a huge lecture theatre.”
“The course has also offered lots of support with job applications,” she added. “It helps me feel confident about my future teaching career.”
