Vamos Theatre, the UK’s leading full mask theatre company, is moving its base from Worcester Arts Workshop to the Swan Theatre in Worcester.
From September 9th, the award-winning touring theatre company will be based permanently at the Swan, including running its production rehearsals and learning programme from there.
The move was instigated by the closure of Worcester Arts Workshop due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. WAW has been Vamos Theatre’s very happy home for the last 8 years, and its creative and supportive atmosphere helped the company to grow and develop, becoming an Arts Council funded organization in 2018.
Rachael Savage, Vamos Theatre’s Artistic Director, commented, “We’d like to thank everyone at Worcester Arts Workshop for all their support over the last 8 years – our hearts go out to staff and volunteers who are affected by the closure. The move to the Swan is such an incredibly exciting move for Vamos Theatre. Lockdown has been so tough for the arts, much of our team was on furlough and our tour was cut short in March, so a fantastic home at the Swan Theatre gives us new energy and ambition.”
Sarah-Jane Morgan, Chief Executive of the Swan Theatre, added, “We are delighted to be welcoming the exceptional Vamos Theatre company to the Swan Theatre. We value the opportunity to support the company as they continue to develop their reputation as the UK’s leading full mask company and are looking forward to working in partnership with the team to preview their future productions on the Swan Theatre’s stage, presenting the highest standard of theatre to our Worcester audiences.”
Vamos Theatre, funded by Arts Council England, was recently awarded one of the BBC’s Culture in Quarantine commission, celebrating the making of artistic work during lockdown. You can see the company’s short film series, How Hard is Waving? on BBC iPlayer here: https://bbc.in/2QKPdue
