Former Mayoress, Rachel Hall, has died after suffering with breast cancer since 2021.
Rachel’s partner, Councillor Adrian Gregson was mayor of Worcester in 2022/23.
He said: “We always knew some aspects of the Mayoress role would be challenging but the many events, openings, functions and activities she did attend she very much enjoyed; she brightened up any occasion, was always interested in the people we met and their lives and experiences.”
Rachel was a talented artist, selling many cards, prints and original watercolours. Her cards have graced many a mantelpiece, from friends and family, to Downing Street. Proceeds from her cards have gone to OnSide, Severn Arts and, most recently, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity Oncology Centre.
Born in Broadheath, Rachel attended Henwick Grove Junior school, St Mary’s Convent, and Worcester Technical College before working for a time in London. On her return to her home city she worked for Odbbins in The Cornmarket for nearly 20 years and many will remember her wine advice and expertise. Much of this was honed through meticulous attention to many different grapes and flavours – something that can only really be achieved through practical experience. When Oddbins went into administration she worked for a short time at Bottles Wine Shop on New Street.
Rachel’s father was also a talented artist and sculptor, her mother worked with children in the county’s social services team for many years, and she had a large family network. She was a member at New Road and followed Worcester Warriors halfway round Europe with Adrian, immersing herself in the exciting tastes and culture of the continent.
Having proposed to Adrian on 29 February this year, her funeral will take place on Wednesday 21 August at Astwood Cemetery and will be a colourful celebration on what should have been their wedding day.
