Top Marks for Worcester Students After Amazing Charity Spa Day

Beauty therapy students were showered with praise after hosting a charity spa day that showcased their glittering vocational skills and leadership.

Level 2 and Level 3 Beauty Therapy students from Evesham New College, which is part of WCG, gained invaluable hands-on experience working with members of the public during the event, which formed part of their course assessment.

Nine Level 2 students provided guests with soothing manicures and pedicures alongside rejuvenating facials. Two days later, ten Level 3 students offered a broader range of luxurious treatments, including manicures, pedicures, facials with electrical treatments and full-body massages.

Held within a classroom decorated by students to replicate that of a calming treatment room, the spa day also had an important charitable element raising money for Cancer Research UK, which students had voted to support.

All proceeds from treatment fees will go to the charity. A raffle, featuring exciting prizes sourced by the students, was also held helping to raise a total of £276 in the fight against cancer.

Tracey Hobson, Course Manager at Evesham New College, said: “The students were very professional and gained a lot of experience working in a professional salon environment and organizing events.

“It was an excellent opportunity for them to practice their skills and work in the community, all while supporting a meaningful cause. I think it’s important for the students to understand what it will be like when they go out into the working environment.

“The feedback from the clients was amazing. I had messages from some of the clients saying how professional the students were, how lovely the day was and how relaxed they felt.

“Some of the students paid for their parents to have a spa treatment as an early Christmas present, which was a nice touch.”

Sparkling apple juice and mince pies were served by the students to give the event an elegant and festive feel.

Tracey said the overall success of the spa day helped all of the students involved to pass their assessments to a high standard.

Many of the students are now set to embark on work experience placements at a salon or spa this week in a further undertaking for their course.

Debbie Parry, Instructor Technician at Evesham New College, said: “I am very proud of how the day showcased the excellent growing skills of learners and the dedication of our teaching team to ensure learners are trained to the highest standards.

“We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work and commitment in making this event such a success and we know the students themselves feel quite proud – and rightly so.

“This event allowed them to gain work experience, but in a safer environment. It helps us to build their confidence, step by step, and really challenged them by treating people they may not know.

“Thanks to everyone who attended and contributed, we have made a real difference for Cancer Research UK. We look forward to hosting more community events in the future to continue supporting great causes.”
