The Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment Beret Badge by Selcraft UK

Selcraft UK receive regular instructions for Beret and Cap Badges; either as new special commissions or repeat orders.

The team have supplied these items to all manner of uniformed organisations from local school CCF’s to Amiri Forces abroad and everything between!

An instance is the badge shown – the Princess of Wales’s Beret/Cap Badge – initially created as a bronze beret badge then subsequently as a cap badge, requiring different and additional processes, yet still using the same dies and tools to replicate the item using base metal copper alloys.

Both badges are made in 2 components; the base oval, incorporating the wording, buckle, and scroll onto which is mounted and affixed the plumes, dragon and rose.

This method of construction endows the badge with a dimensional appearance and depth that cannot be achieved by reproducing the badge in one piece.

Further, it is also the traditional and correct way to reproduce a badge such as this for a military purpose.

The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment can trace its lineage back to the raising of the Trained Bands of London in 1572 and the Tangier Regiment in 1661. The modern Regiment has a proud history and came into being on 9 September 1992 with the amalgamation of the Queen’s Regiment and the Royal Hampshire Regiment.

The wording on the badge “Honi soit qui mal y pense” is a French maxim used as the motto of the British chivalric Order of the Garter.

It is translated as “May he be shamed who thinks badly of it”

The consultative process that Selcraft employ with their clients allow them to gain a full and comprehensive understanding of their needs and therefore able to offer the most appropriate and cost effective advice.
