The Courtyard Announces Ambitious LED Lighting Project to Enhance the Performance Spaces and Substantially Reduce its Carbon Footprint

The Courtyard is thrilled to unveil its latest initiative to bring vibrant low-energy lighting to its performance spaces through the installation of 140, eco-friendly LED lights. This innovative lighting project promises endless possibilities for creative expression, from soft hues to bold colours, creating a dynamic and immersive experience for audiences, alongside environmental and financial savings.

The total project cost is £379,000 with £90,000 of that already raised internally. If the fundraising is successful, the lights will be ready for installation in August 2025. Transitioning to LED lighting is a significant step towards net-zero. By converting to LEDs, the charity aims to slash its electricity usage in the spaces by an impressive 90% reducing its carbon footprint by 9,000kgs annually. The financial savings generated from this eco-friendly upgrade will be reinvested into The Courtyard’s community education and outreach programmes, furthering its commitment to enriching the local community through the arts.

The Courtyard has long been dedicated to environmental stewardship, championing various green initiatives over the past decade, including a full recycling programme and harnessing solar power through PV panels on its roof. This latest project aligns with the organisation’s overarching goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2035, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to sustainability and responsible resource management.

To fund this transformative project, The Courtyard is launching a public appeal with a fundraising goal of £25,000 or more. Donors are invited to make a suggested donation of £25 or, if able, ‘purchase’ an LED light from the shopping list. Purchasing a light offers a unique opportunity to celebrate special occasions, honour loved ones, or showcase support for the arts community and will include a 10-year seat plaque in the Main House.

The Courtyard invites individual supporters, creative organisations, and local businesses to help this community arts charity on the path towards a sustainable and vibrant future.
