Sixth Form success in ‘Science at Heart’ School Competition

A team of five Year 13 pupils from Malvern St James Girls’ School (MSJ) scooped joint third place in the Science at Heart competition.

The competition, hosted by The British Heart Foundation’s Centre of Research Excellence at Imperial College London, required pupils to engage in high-quality scientific research, work collaboratively as a team and present to a panel of experts in the field.

The students from MSJ designed a poster that illustrated a strategy for combining hard sciences with biomedicine with novel technology to reduce the number of deaths and disabilities caused by heart and circulatory disease. They worked on this throughout the summer term, producing a poster on Atrial Fibrillation.

The pupils pulled together an excellent presentation and held their own against tough competition and were awarded joint third place.
