Second Anonymous Donor Lifts Worcester Student Scholarships and Hardship Funds to More Than £30,000

A second anonymous donor has gifted £2,500 to the University of Worcester’s campaign to raise money to support students through scholarships and hardship funds.

They’ve also pledged to gift a further £2,500 to the campaign when Professor Green, the University’s Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive, completes his epic 280km walk from Porto to Santiago de Compostela.

As part of the University’s two-year-long Anniversaries Campaign, staff and friends of the University are raising money through physical challenges, bake sales, craft fairs, and more.

A first anonymous donor has pledged £100 per kilometre in matched funding to double every penny raised up to £28,000.

The total for the fundraising now stands at more than £30,000.

Professor David Green CBE DL said: “I’m overwhelmed with gratitude to see so many donations being made, from those who have given £10 per kilometre – £2,800 plus Gift Aid of £700 to those giving a penny per kilometre, £2.80 plus 70p gift aid.”

“Every penny will make a positive difference to the University’s students, who go on to do such vital work after graduating including nursing, teaching, creating new businesses, and more.”

He said: “I’ve also been greatly touched by the messages of encouragement which have come with the donations, from the former Governor of the Bank of England, Lord Mervyn King, the former President of the International Paralympic Committee, Sir Philip Craven, and the renowned surgeon Ronan Treacy, as well as colleagues past and present, friends of the University, graduates, and more.”

He added: “It’s encouraging to see that so many people see that there are those who can contribute a great deal to society, but financial matters beyond their control sometimes stop them from doing so. Together, we’re making a difference to the next generation of professionals across healthcare, business, sports, education, law, the arts, and much, much more.”
