Selcraft have been honoured to both design and produce items required by The Royal Guard of Oman or RGO.
Founded in 1970, the RGO is a separate service within the Sultan’s Armed Forces and is not part of the regular Royal Army of Oman. The RGO is a personal security and ceremonial unit responsible for the protection of the Sultan and other senior members of the Royal Family.
A unique medal, “The Special Service Medal” is awarded for five years of service in the RGO and was designed and issued in 1985 to coincide with the 15th Anniversary year of Sultan Qaboos’s reign.
The medal is produced in both fullsize and miniature and is of the highest quality, befitting such an organisation. Each medal is “minted” which imparts the mirror background and crisp detailing straight from the dies (moulds) thus requiring no further polishing prior to gold electroplating.
Ornate Koranic text covers both sides of the medal with year dates on the reverse, also in Arabic, 1985 (Gregorian Calendar) and 1402 (Islamic Hijri Calendar).
The suspension bar articulates and is decorated with palm fronds and further Arabic text. The medal ribbon has green stripes on either side and is mainly maroon, which matches the colour of the RGO beret.
Selcraft has been a long term designer and producer of medals, insignia and badges for the uniformed services within the Sultanate of Oman and other Gulf States. They have proven and competent design skills with all forms of Arabic calligraphy and other languages.
