Rental company nominated for ‘Family Business of the Year’ award

Powered access rental company, GTAccess, has been shortlisted as one of the finalists at this year’s Birmingham Business Excellence Awards for the category of ‘Family Business of the Year’.

The company started life nearly 40 years ago as a small, family run, electrical contracting company and is now the 5th largest independent powered access rental company in the UK. Originally known as Geoff Till Electrical Contractors (GTE) the company needed access equipment to help with electrical installations.  In those early days hiring this equipment proved problematic, so GTE purchased its own – later starting a rental division in 1990.

Today, GTAccess employs just over 100 people and operates from 8 locations across the Midlands, South East and Wales. The Company is now run by the Founder’s son, Jonathan Till, together with his wife and fellow director Jo-Anne Till.

Jonathan Till, Managing Director at GTAccess commented: “GTAccess has always been a family business and we believe we get the best out of our staff by thinking of them as an extended family rather than just employees. In 2013 we only employed 19 people, today 14 of those still work for us and 2 of those that left did so due to retirement – so our retention record is excellent.”

The Birmingham Business Excellence Awards aim to celebrate success, recognise achievement and highlight the innovative people and companies throughout Birmingham who are putting their region on the map by boosting the economy while making a positive contribution to the local community.

The awards dinner will be held on Thursday 7 November at the ICC Birmingham with comedian Mark Dolan and retired English Badminton Player Gail Emms MBE presenting. Good luck to everyone who has been nominated.
