A director of a Worcester recruitment firm is to take on next year’s TCS London Marathon for charity AngelmanUK.
James Cronin, a director at recruitment specialist, GMP Recruitment, part of the Frederick Harlan Group, is taking part in the world’s most famous marathon next April and is pledging to raise £10,000 for the charity which supports those affected by Angelman syndrome, a rare neurological condition.
The recruitment expert is running the world famous 26.2 mile course to raise money for the charity, inspired by four year-old Worcester girl Ava Pincott, who suffers from Angelman syndrome.
Ava, daughter of Mr Cronin’s business partner Mike, has suffered from the condition since birth, with the fundraising aiming to heighten awareness and support local and national projects.
James Cronin said: “Ava is a wonderful, inspirational and very happy little girl who approaches life with a smile.
“Children suffering from Angelman syndrome means they will always need support with different parts of their lives, so to be playing my role in helping them has really driven me on and I’m delighted I’ve secured a place in London next year.
“The training is tough but it’s going well and is helping me to eat healthier too. It would be the icing on the cake to reach my fundraising target in the months ahead which will help those effected by the condition across the country.”
Rachel Martin, chair of AngelmanUK added “James is going to amazing lengths and efforts to raise money for the charity and we’re hugely grateful. It will be a significant boost as we are so dependent on donations.
“All members of the Board have family with Angelman syndrome and so we know exactly the types of issues Mike and his family face. Ultimately, we want to raise awareness of Angelman syndrome and the challenges it brings, and also build a stronger community. We are very proud of our collaboration with the NHS Angelman clinic in Manchester and have plans to open more clinics across the UK. Every single penny raised helps towards those goals and people like James play an integral and inspirational role.”
AngelmanUK is reliant on donations and has gone on to support hundreds of families since the charity was established in 1992 by a group of parents whose children had the condition. One in 15,000 people are affected by condition. The charity’s website is available through https://www.angelmanuk.org/
