Prime Minister delivers update to COVID-19 Recovery Strategy in ‘Plan to Rebuild’

The Prime Minister has this morning set out next steps in the Government’s Covid-19 recovery strategy, including an update to ‘Our Plan to Rebuild’, originally published on 11 May and publication of the Contain Framework, setting out how local authorities and national Government will work together to manage local outbreaks.

The main strands of this wide-ranging announcement were:

  • A timetable for reopening many closed businesses
  • Notification that the guidance on returning to work will change from 1 August, from the present position of only working outside of the home if otherwise impossible to work. Employers in consultation with employees will be asked to decide how to approach this.
  • Greater detail on the approach to local lockdowns, with the PM outlining a two-tier system.
  • A new target for antigen testing and spending on upgrading NHS capacity.
