The Herefordshire Samaritans have been present in Hereford since 1972, and whilst part of the national Samaritans organisation, we are an independent charity which receives no funding from the central office. We are therefore entirely dependent upon our own fundraising efforts and the generosity of our donors to keep the lights on and our service going.
We currently have around 90 volunteers and are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, answering the phone to people who are in a state of emotional distress, suffering with suicidal thoughts or who are actively suicidal. On two days of the week, we are open right through the night to take those calls.
None of our volunteers, from the branch director down to the newest probationary volunteer, receive a salary for their work.
If you are looking for a charity to support, whether by personal donation, organisation of an event to raise funds for charity, taking part in a sponsored event, are thinking about a will bequest or your business would consider a corporate sponsorship, whether as a one off donation, or an ongoing monthly amount, we would love to hear from you.
