The Severn Valley Railway launches an exciting Christmas first this weekend, as its brand-new Santa Steam Specials begin their festive journeys, with a very special new star set to delight audiences. Polly the Polar Bear, an awe-inspiring puppet will make her debut in the SVR’s all-new Christmas production.
This fresh addition to the SVR’s seasonal programme brings together a nostalgic steam-hauled train ride and a brand-new theatrical experience. Departing from Kidderminster, starting on 29 and 30 November, and running on selected dates up to Christmas Eve, the Santa Steam Specials will transport families through the wintry Severn Valley to Arley, where The Great Christmas Train Rescue unfolds live on stage. Featuring Santa, Polly and the dastardly Victor Von Sneeze, the show promises laughter, adventure and truly magical festive moments.
The introduction of puppetry into the performance, designed by War Horse creator Matthew Forbes, brings a new level of theatrical spectacle to the SVR, and visitor engagement manager Lewis Maddox urged families to book soon:
“Because this is a brand-new experience, demand has been incredible. Some services have already completely sold out, and many others now have only limited availability. If you’re hoping to join us, especially as we get closer to Christmas, please book as soon as you can. We don’t want anyone to miss out on this unforgettable festive experience.”
The SVR will also offer relaxed Santa Steam Specials on 7, 14 and 21 December, designed to welcome visitors who prefer a calmer environment.
