The Serco Restart Scheme has been working with One Stop, a retail convenience business with over 900 shops, since July 2022. Serco Restart Scheme Employer Engagement Coordinator, Hannah Monaghan, met Campbell Hutchison, People Partner for One Stop, via a mutual connection.
The Restart Scheme is part of the Government’s wider ‘Plan for Jobs’ programmes to help people develop their skills so they can find long-term meaningful employment. Serco has been chosen by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to deliver the Restart Scheme in West Central (Black Country, Coventry, Greater Birmingham and Solihull, The Marches and Worcestershire) and Wales.
Following Hannah and Campbell’s success in Wales, One Stop approached Serco to roll out promotion of their vacancies to other Restart Scheme providers across England. Hannah and Campbell are now working together and have implemented a recruitment process across all 12 Restart Scheme providers in England.
Hannah said: “One Stop are very supportive in wanting to help our Participants succeed. They hold information sessions to provide Participants insight into the roles and responsibilities of the jobs that are available and help them with interview preparation. I have also presented to One Stop team managers to help them understand more about the Restart Scheme and answer any questions they have.”
Campbell said: ”I am thoroughly enjoying the collaborative approach that the Restart Scheme and we (One Stop) have adopted and continue to foster. As well as recruiting for store staff, we have also incorporated our Distribution Centres into the recruitment process and have just successfully welcomed our first new colleague into this area via the Restart Scheme”.
