Modern Work Experience at Specsavers M&D

Work experience at Specsavers Manufacturing & Distribution has evolved into a hands‑on and meaningful introduction to the world of work. Across Vision Labs, Lens Online, IGS and Kidderminster, students now gain real insight into how eyewear is produced, distributed and supported by our teams every day.

Through strong partnerships with local schools, colleges and universities, we offer structured placements that go far beyond simple shadowing. Students take part in practical tasks, explore digital tools and learn directly from colleagues who guide, mentor and encourage them throughout their placement. Feedback is consistently positive, with teachers noting increased confidence and clearer career aspirations among their students.

Over the past year, M&D colleagues have supported many young people through placements, mock interviews, careers events and site tours. These opportunities help students build valuable skills while strengthening our future talent pipeline and reinforcing our commitment to supporting local communities. Modern work experience is about making a real difference. By giving young people a meaningful introduction to the workplace, we’re helping them shape their futures while showcasing the brilliant work our teams do every day.

Most recently, we were asked to pilot a new government initiative offering early work experience to younger students. As part of this, we welcomed nine students and two teachers from Years 7, 8 and 9 at Stourport High School for a two‑week placement at Vision Labs. They toured the Surfacing department, completing a questionnaire as they explored each stage of the process. Afterwards, they joined us in the boardroom for a presentation about Specsavers and discussions about their answers and future career aspirations.
