MELTON DONATES £500 TO MALVERN’S DALVINGTON AND THE OAKS ASSISTED LIVING

The Melton Group have donated £500 to provide toys to the residents of Dalvington and The Oaks assisted living in Malvern, which is supported by the charity FitzRoy who provide residential care for people with disabilities.

After a heartfelt plea on social media by Anneka Haffield, who is the sister of resident Trudie at the Dalvington and The Oaks assisted living, Melton Group were moved by it being such a tough year for the individuals and their families, during the restrictions imposed by COVID-19 and were delighted to help.

After restrictions were increased in the area and a long-awaited holiday to Wales was cancelled, Anneka decided to put out an appeal for games for the service to lift their spirits. To her surprise, Melanie Baker, Managing Director of Malvern based Melton Group decided to donate a generous £500 to the service. Together Anneka and Melanie went out to buy games, arts and crafts materials and sensory items for Dalvington and The Oaks.

Anneka explains her sheer joy at Melanie reaching out to her saying “I then got a message from a woman called Melanie who runs a local business, Melton Group. She said she wanted to help and make a donation of £500 and go shopping with me to spend the money on items I think the service would like. I couldn’t believe it, I was so overwhelmed and shocked, I cried!”.

Service Manager Louise at Dalvington and The Oaks was thrilled with the news saying “Going into lockdown in March was hard enough, but only last month families were beginning to visit in the garden again and we had things to look forward to. When we were told Worcestershire care homes would have to go into lockdown again it was a real blow to everyone. This donation was just the boost everyone needed. It has really got people motivated again.” She added “I can’t thank Melanie enough, it’s so lovely to know there are some truly generous kind-hearted people in this world.”

Melanie at the Melton Group was pleased to help and says “Melton prides itself on having a caring culture and seeing people not disability first so, when I saw Anneka’s plea on Facebook I had to act. We sometimes forget just how many people this pandemic has significantly affected and it’s a testament to our local community in Malvern that when I acted and contacted other business owners; Jenny from Barnards Green Post Office and Pam from Heidi’s Treasure Trove, they wanted to help too.”

Buying the toys locally in Malvern at Barnards Green Post Office and Heidi’s Treasure Trove, further supports the business community and in true caring spirit both shops offered a further 10% charity discount so the donation would go even further!
