PGM Pest Control is urging UK businesses, farmers, and pest control professionals to review their rodent management following major regulatory changes that came into force on 1 January 2026 under the UK Rodenticide Stewardship Regime.
The updated rules mean that professional-use rodenticides can now only be supplied to purchasers who can demonstrate recognised proof of competence. The changes will improve environmental protection, safeguard wildlife and raise professional standards across the pest control industry.
PGM Pest Control has published a comprehensive guide explaining the new mandatory regulations and what they mean for homeowners, farmers, businesses and professional pest controllers.

“These changes represent one of the most significant shifts in rodent control regulations.” said Philip Martin, Director of PGM Pest Control. “Any business relying on professional pest control should now be checking that their provider is fully compliant and operating within the updated stewardship framework.”
Key changes under the new regime include:
✔️ Only CRRU-approved proof of competence accepted
✔️ Certificates must be <5 years old or CRRU-approved CPD
✔️ Farm assurance schemes no longer accepted
✔️ Outdoor SGAR restrictions remain
The changes affect multiple sectors including food production, hospitality, healthcare, warehousing, agriculture and commercial property management, increasing the importance of documented, compliant pest control programmes.
“Modern pest control is no longer about routine baiting,” added Martin. “It’s about evidence-based control, monitoring, documentation and environmental responsibility.”
PGM Pest Control is advising businesses and farmers across Herefordshire and Worcestershire to review their pest control contracts and ensure their provider complies with the new 2026 regulations. For anyone with questions or needing professional rodent control, PGM Pest Control offers expert guidance and support to maintain environmental compliance.
