Make Supporting Local Children and Families Your New Year’s Resolution

‘Do something amazing this year and support local children and families’ – that’s the inspirational message from Acorns Children’s Hospice which is asking the public to make giving back their New Year’s resolution.

The charity, which provides vital care for life limited and life threatened children across Worcestershire is urging people to support Acorns in 2022, whether it be by joining a fundraiser, becoming a volunteer, or making a donation to its shops.

Vicki Rowles, Head of Fundraising at Acorns, said: “There’s no time like the new year to make that positive change and supporting Acorns can tick all your resolution boxes. Need more exercise? Take part in a fun run. Want to meet new people? Join a bucket collection. Or would you like to learn something new? Why not volunteer in one of our shops?”

“By supporting Acorns you’ll be helping us to continue to be there for the children and families that need us most.”

Fundraising is a fun way to help Acorns be there for families all year round. Make 2022 the year of adventures and take part in an array of different challenges from Acorns. Volunteering with Acorns makes a real difference, whether it’s at the charity’s three hospices or in Acorns retail shops across Worcestershire.

Local businesses can get behind Acorns by partnering with the charity, playing a key role in Acorns mission to provide its specialist care for every family who needs it.

And people can donate. Whether it’s a single or regular gift, all donations help Acorns continue its work. You can also donate pre-loved items to Acorns shops which are crucial for keeping their shelves fully stocked.

Vicki added: “There are lots of ways people can give something back to Acorns in 2022. So, as you take stock of your life and plan for the year ahead, we’d be delighted if you would choose to support Acorns.

“It will make a real difference to the children and families we help – and we’ll be there to support you every step of the way too.”

Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care for life limited and life threatened children and support for their families from its three hospices, based in Worcester, Birmingham, Walsall, and in the community.

In the past year, the charity has cared for more than 700 children and almost 1,000 families, including those who are bereaved.

It cost Acorns £27,000 per day to provide its lifeline care and support, the bulk of which comes from fundraising and donations.

The charity relies on generous donations and fundraising by the public and local businesses for the majority of the funds it needs.
