An artist from Worcester is to host her first ever major exhibition, after winning a prestigious national award.
Amber Sparrey, Technical Manager and Associate Lecturer at the University of Worcester’s Institute of Arts and Humanities, has been selected as the winner of arebyte* Gallery’s Hotel Generation 2025; a national award supporting digital artists.
The award is highly regarded in the UK digital arts community, attracting more than 100 applications. Amber was successful with her proposal: Soft Bodies, Cold Machines.
She said: “It’s a multidisciplinary installation, merging sculpture, film and interactive technology. It examines how nostalgia and technology shape the way we perceive ourselves and our bodies online.”
“The show will blur the line between physical and virtual space,” she said. “Inviting viewers into a strange, nostalgic dreamworld.”
Amber will spend the next few months finalising, making, filming, and building her exhibition, which will be open to the public from February until April 2026 at arebyte Gallery’s Camden location.
It will offer an immersive, multisensory experience spanning two rooms, and visitors will encounter sculptures, film and interactive artworks.
Amber said: “I’m incredibly excited. After months of research and developing the proposal, being selected out of such a competitive field felt surreal. It’s such a privilege to be recognised by arebyte, and such a prestigious judging panel.”
She continued: “I’m really looking forward to seeing how the work comes to life and transforms in the gallery space.”
Amber added: “I’m hoping my exhibition will show students that you don’t have to compromise what you want to do to succeed. It’s a reminder that taking risks, thinking critically and being unapologetically yourself can lead to opportunities.”
