A Rubery business has won a prestigious medal at this year’s RHS Malvern Spring Festival. F.B & Sons, Lawns and Landscapes designed a garden for Primrose Hospice & Family Support Centre in Bromsgrove; the garden is now being relocated to the Hospice gardens and will be opened to the public later this year.
Designer Marc Harbourne-Bessant was inspired by the countryside around the Hospice and the historical connections with St Godwald’s Church. The garden is a place of peace and reflection, with scented flowers and colourful foliage providing interest all year round.
One of the focal points of the garden is the Reflection Lodge, constructed with woven hazel from the Malvern Hills itself. Inside the Lodge is a ‘Wind Telephone’ – whilst not physically connected, the phone can be used to speak with a lost loved one or dial an old familiar number. Our words are then carried ‘on the wind’.
F.B & Sons and Primrose Hospice worked with staff and volunteers to create the garden over three weeks before opening to the public and judges. The Hospice raised awareness of the vital work they do within the community, with visitors sharing their own personal stories of bereavement.
