Millions of us are now in lock down in the UK, and the very fabric of our society has shifted as a result. With vastly reduced travel and industrial output, we have already seen major reductions in pollution and emissions across the World, but what about the impact that staying at home is having on your own personal energy usage?
As we are all spending much more time at home our energy bills are likely to increase, with more time spent watching TV, using the internet, heating your home, cooking and more. At a time when we’re all feeling the pressure on our finances, this can present challenges for families across the UK. But there are lots of things you could be doing to keep your energy bills under control whilst reducing your impact on the environment. For example, the Energy Saving Trust recommends a heating range of 18-21C for healthy adults. If you normally have your heating at the higher end of the scale, try turning the thermostat down by just one degree – over the course of a year, this can save you £80 on your energy bill. Also, don’t leave your appliances on standby – by turning them off at the plug you could save around £30 a year.
