Hampton Grange and Gwen Walford Nursing Homes Welcome Dean of Hereford Cathedral

The Hampton Grange and Gwen Walford Nursing Homes residents and staff were delighted to welcome a very special visitor, Sarah Brown, the Dean of Hereford Cathedral. This visit marked a historic moment as Sarah is the first woman to hold this prestigious role in the diocese’s 1,300-year history.

Dean Sarah Brown, who joined Hereford Cathedral from Peterborough Cathedral, has been a pivotal figure in the Church of England since her ordination in 2008. She has extensive experience working closely with agricultural and rural communities and ministering to market towns and cathedral cities. In her current role as Dean of Hereford, Sarah holds overall responsibility for the cathedral’s life, mission, and ministry, overseeing administration, finance, and fabric matters in addition to her duties across the wider diocese.

During her visit to the nursing homes, Dean Sarah spent a lovely afternoon meeting with residents, enjoying tea, cake, and entertainment. She expressed her admiration for the beautiful rooms at Gwen Walford and was captivated by the stunning views at Hampton Grange.

Rebecca Protheroe, Home Manager of Hampton Grange and Gwen Walford, shared her thoughts on the visit: “We were truly honoured to welcome Dean Sarah Brown to our homes. Everyone felt her warmth and kindness, and seeing the smiles on our residents’ faces was a joy. We are very grateful for the time she spent with us and for her thoughtful invitation for our residents to visit Hereford Cathedral.”

In a special gesture, Dean Sarah has invited Lifestyle Coordinator Nicky and the residents to a guided tour of Hereford Cathedral, which promises to be an exciting and memorable experience for all.
