“The two most important days in your life are the day you
are born… and the day you find out why…”. Mark Twain
This is how I came to realise my ‘true north’ and to be ‘on
mission’, everyday of my life….
EG People Development grew out of a passion for leadership
development and enabling people to be the best version of
themselves – through training and coaching.
After completing a Masters degree in business administration and human resources, the jobs I secured
afterwards seemed to have a common theme running through them – working in outplacement with
people facing redundancy and career change, working in the Probation Service with ex-offenders, enabling
them to realise their skills and talents to help them find an alternative to a career in crime, working in
learning and development – designing, commissioning and delivering training and then most recently, a
career in leadership development, training senior managers how to coach, positively inspiring others and
lead change.
The common theme was people: energising and enthusing them to realise their potential and opportunity
for personal growth – and here lies my purpose, my why and ‘true north’. Everyday I am ‘on mission’ to
fulfil this purpose and to train, coach and facilitate others to find their purpose too.
My values also play a key part in my everyday decision making – to quote Simon Sinek ‘do business with
people who believe in what you believe in’. My values are about freedom, trust, fun, adventure and
creativity and the leadership development projects I undertake enable me to be stretched, learn, innovate
and inspire others – all contributing to my personal growth.
Along with a Masters Degree, I’m an Insights Discovery licensed practitioner and NLP (Neuro Linguistic
Programming) Master Practitioner. Insights Discovery is a psychometric tool used in personal, leadership
and team development. The NLP principles I use in coaching and every training course.
My work and contracts have enabled me to work in transformational leadership programmes in the private
sector – Motorola (communications), Otsuka (pharmaceutical), Ancala (water services), United Living
(Housing), Synlab (medical diagnostics), the public sector – Local Government, The Police & Crime
Commission and close to my heart – the Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland.
I’m passionate about what I do and as a result days fly by, work doesn’t seem like work. I spend large
amounts of time reading, being curious and learning from others – from delegates, people I coach, through
to authors and international thought leaders. So thank you Mark Twain – you were right and I’m extremely
grateful to have achieved absolute clarity on why I do what I do…
